Health & Fitness For Busy People | Lifestyle

Hi everyone!

It’s that time of the week again where I discuss my thoughts and you read if you want to.

Today, I thought I would do a little update on life, seen as it feels like forever (although I only posted last week). I took a break from blogging and YouTube to kind of build my confidence and self esteem. I wanted to make sure I was happy with the way I look. Even though I feel like there’s still a distance to go in my health and fitness journey, I am really happy so far and thought I would share it with those people out there who feel like they are too busy to begin their fitness programme or do food prep or eat healthy. I was the same, but with a little work I managed to figure out just how to squeeze it into my life, and now it is something I look forward to and enjoy…who would have thought?!

I spent so long saying ‘I’ll start tomorrow’ and eventually got so used to my diet of eating rubbish that I just couldn’t really be bothered. I started to lose energy and motivation. My friend decided she wanted to kickstart her fitness ‘journey’ as people call it, and asked me to join the gym to which – admittedly – I was a little skeptical to do, but I did it anyway.

I started out by joining the gym, and keeping my food relatively the same. I cut out crisps with my lunch and started to eat brown bread. I’m sure you can agree this wasn’t much of a difference, but I did start to see changes and once that happened it made me feel like I wanted to do more and eat healthier.

I began to book classes at the gym some cardio, some weights. I wanted to have a mix. I knew that if I went by myself I would end up doing 15 minutes and then deciding I was way too tired and going home. I found that doing classes eliminated that possibility because I couldn’t leave once the class had started.

I think that was the main thing that helped me lose the weight, I did the classes and I genuinely enjoyed it. The gym is a good place to not think or get everything you’re thinking about our of your system, it really started to chill me out when I was going regularly. It made me happier with my body, enjoy some me time and really focus on what I wanted – essentially it helped organise my mind.

If you’re thinking of started your health and fitness journey, use me as an example. I hated eating well, I loved bad food and I could never be bothered to go to the gym for more than 15 minutes if that! Classes saved me, so maybe try them first, but definitely do it if you have been thinking about it for a while. Do something that you know will make you happy.

If you have any questions at all about health & fitness, do leave them in the comments! I love reading your thoughts.

Love, as always,

verybeth

Things I’ve learned in my 20’s | Lifestyle

Hey everyone,

I thought I would do a post today about something I have been thinking about a lot lately. Something I wish I could have read when I was younger, not necessarily an open letter to my younger self but to everyone out there who’s struggling with not knowing what they want to do with their life, struggling with school, or coming into their 20’s and thinking what the actual f*ck is life about.

So here goes, 10 things I’ve learned in my 20’s.

  1. That being different is Ok. It’s actually better than okay, it’s pretty cool. It might feel the opposite when you’re in school or college, or even right now. You just need to identify yourself, and stick to your core morals and beliefs, it makes you a genuine person and ultimately unique? Who can do you as good as you? No-one.
    pexels-photo-299245
  2. That there will be a time where you run out of all your clean knickers and you have to resort to your bikini bottoms or low and behold your boyfriends boxers. Failing that it’s pretty much commando, but hey ho it’s nice to have a bit of freedom sometimes.
    bikini-two-piece-swimwear-women-two-parter-54265.jpeg
  3. There will be days where you pig out enormously, don’t move from your bed and binge watch a 1* TV series, just because and THAT’S OKAY! Despite people telling you you need to get your life together you need some days where you dedicate some to time to yourself and maybe a bit of junk food & pizza.
    pexels-photo-206396.jpeg
  4. This one is my favourite thing I’ve learned so far I think. It may seem weird to the older generation who think we’re just a bunch of quitters but really we’re just in search of a life we love. This isn’t a bad thing. It means we’re growing, we want to see more of the world, be part of something bigger and that’s not a problem. Get the life experience you crave, visit different places and immerse yourself in culture. You’ve only got this one chance, so live your life exactly how you want to or you will just end up having regrets (and no one wants those).
    pexels-photo.jpeg
  5. See as many live performances as possible. Whether this be a festival, a play, a gig or something else. See it. There’s nothing that brings your soul alive more than experiencing something first hand and living in that moment with the people you love, or just by yourself. My favourite memories are those where I get to see someone on stage singing to a crowd of people who are all there to have a good time. There truly is nothing better, or more educational.
    pexels-photo-70222.jpeg
  6. You’re going to make some fashion mishaps. It happens. You can’t go through your whole life drifting from one effortless outfit to the next unless you’re just born with style which most of us aren’t its something you learn because you love expressing yourself through clothes, and feeling confident. You know what they say, dress for the job you want and I want to be a f*cking success.
    pexels-photo-179909-2.jpeg
  7. That the best hangover food you can get is located just near the Arndale in Manchester at a place called Northern Soul. What better way to absorb the last dregs of alcohol left in your system than with a grilled cheese sandwich bigger than your head??
    JS87128027.jpg
  8. It’s ok to be ambitious. In fact strive for what you want and do it young. Work hard for what you want, so that you can reap the benefits earlier. There’s no limit to hard work, self improvement and achieving your goals. No excuses, get up and do it. Start today, and do something that makes you happy.
    pexels-photo-399161.jpeg
  9. My favourite saying goes ‘You did not wake up today to be mediocre’. That’s right, you didn’t. You’re lucky to wake up everyday so make the most of it. Do something that makes you happy every single day, no matter how big or small.
    pexels-photo-65121.jpeg
  10. Talk about it. Being in your 20’s is hard, really really hard. You need to remember that if you’re feeling down, sad, depressed, anxious or anything like that you need to have an outlet and get the support you need. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, be proud that you’re strong enough to get the help you need, it’s hard but so rewarding. You can do it.

I hope some of these are as relatable for you as they are for me and you enjoyed reading about my struggles and realisations.

Until next time,

Products To Save The Day

Hey everyone,

How are things? Let me know what you’ve been up to lately in the comments, but for now get yourself a cuppa, sit back and relax for the post ahead.

As I have been posting mainly lifestyle related posts lately, I thought I would post one about the products that have been saving my day. You know the ones, where you reach for them in a rush? Something to throw on, that you know will make you look partially more awake when you haven’t had time for a coffee? Yep those ones, I thought why not.

I am just one of those girls, who really enjoys doing my makeup, testing out my makeup limits and trying out new products (As I’m sure a lot of us are). I really hate it when people suggest you wear makeup for the purpose of someone else, and you have to be like, erm no! Hold on a second I’m wearing this for me, because I enjoy it and it makes me feel confident.

Right, I’ll stop rambling now and get to it.

  1. Bio Oil:
This product has saved my face quite literally. My skin suffered so much from being excessively oily, quite red and suffering a lot from more than the occasional blemish. However, after making sure my skin was completely clean in the evenings and then applying the oil before I go to sleep, has really made a difference. It did take a few weeks, but I was seeing results and feeling so confident in my skin.
    BioOil
  2. L’Oreal Matte:
I am a massive, inface HUGE fan of matte liquid lipsticks, I bloody love ’em. However, as we all know, they are so freakin’ drying and it drives me mad. I mean I’ll never change, I will always love a good matte lip and I will power through and have dry lips for the cause, but L’Oreal have given me some magic by their cream matte lips. They are so so comfortable to wear, and I’m just loving the feel and the look. These are definitely a must have and even though they aren’t as long-lasting as matte liquid lipsticks, they feel so much more natural on the lips.
    Makeuo
  3. Night
This perfume by The White Company, is incredible. Think Tom Ford, only cheaper. That is exactly what it smells like, and I’m currently obsessed with this scent. I love the smell on my boyfriend as much as I love the smell on me. It is definitely worth the money if you’re thinking of buying a new perfume for yourself or a partner/friend.
  4. Rimmel London Foundation:
This foundation is my go-to holy grail. It’s so cheap and it’s soooo good. I love trying out different foundations, it’s like that thing I’m always switching up. However, if my skin is getting a bit ropey I’ll revert back to this one because I know how good it is and I really trust it.
    Rimmel
  5. Morphe:
I think this palette speaks for itself. I mentioned one of them in a previous post of mine, but I’m still using it and I’m still loving it. I’m really into reds on the eyes right now, and this just has the perfect shades. I’ll be posting a look using the red shades in this palette, so you can have a look at how I’m doing it and recreating it if you like it.
    Morphe
  6. Baby oil:
For me Baby Oil is one of those things I go in and out of using, just because of the hassle really. However, lately my skin has been in need of some TLC and I always go back to Baby Oil because of the wonders it does for me. Really, I shouldn’t stop using it, I just get really complacent when it comes to moisturising my whole body, but now I have got back into the swing of things, I would definitely recommend using Baby Oil.

How I Stay Positive

Hey there,

How is everyone? It’s not been too long since my last post about how to get motivated, so I thought I would do a sort of sister post about how I stay positive. I feel like this is one of those things which everyone struggles with as its effected by outside factors out of your control.

If you read my post about me quitting my job, you will know that I’ve been having a little bit of a strange few weeks, but I’ve been staying positive and keeping myself busy and it was SO nice. It felt like I was just waking up everyday and working for myself, and to me that’s the ultimate dream.

Image1

So, to get to the point I thought I would write a little post about my morning routine and how it sets me up for a productive and positive day. As much as I love mornings, which believe me I do, I honestly think mornings and cosy nights brainstorming creativity and ideas are my favourite parts of the day, the middle is just me doing work and I still have fun, but the feeling I get when I wake up and brew a fresh pot of coffee is like no other. Is that weird?

  1. Breakfast:
I LOVE breakfast time, it’s so refreshing to wake up and have a fresh start to the day. It is the perfect time to start organising- whilst drinking coffee of course. Which is why everyday I wake up, have a healthy – but tasty – breakfast and brew a fresh pot of coffee, so the smell of coffee beans just goes through the flat (It’s incredible!)
  2. Organise:
I know a lot of us don’t have the time in the morning, but try and set aside 10 minutes. Go through your diary, update it where neccesary and just make yourself aware with what you’ve got on that day, trust me it will make you so much more at ease. Also, if you’ve not got a diary you need to get one.
  3. Happy:
Make sure you’re doing something every day that is going to make you happy. It’s no good just doing everything for everyone else, I mean it’s nice and we should all make an effort to throw around kindness, but remember to be kind to yourself. I make sure that I sit down, watch some YouTube videos, read a little, watch my favourite shows or just work on something that I’m really enjoying.
  4. Write a list:
If you haven’t already gathered, I’m slightly obsessed with organisation, stationary and yep that’s pretty much it. I write lists on a daily basis, but I sit down and write one when I’m feeling a need to be productive or finding I’m in a little bit of rut and forgetting what it is that I want to achieve. I list things that I want to accomplish this year, this month it could even be a more immediate thing, where you write down what you want to achieve that week or that day. If you have something in writing in front of you, it’s just pushing you to make the right choices to get to those places.
  5. Don’t forget:
Most importantly don’t forget what it is you’re wanting to achieve. It can be so easily lost and forgotten where you are headed, because you have to do some things first to get you there most of the time. This could be working as a waitress or sat in an office. It could be anything, just don’t let it deter you forever.

I know these things take up a little more time than you would usually spend in the mornings or in the evenings, but make sure you are having time to reflect on things and time to yourself.

If you have any comments or questions about anything, let me know in the comments. 😊

Love as always, and see you next time!

Happy Days. | Lifestyle

Hey there!

I trust everyone is recovered from their Easter food coma? I am- just about. I thought as it was Easter weekend, I’d have it as my break and then get back to blogging this week, and right back onto my blogging every two days theme I have going on right now.

I swear, I will do my favourites post on Saturday, because I feel like it’s been sooooo long and I have some great picks for you guys that I’m sure you will love just as much as me.

However for now, it’s going to be a lifestyle post. For so long now I’ve seen ‘100 Happy Days’ posts knocking around on Facebook and in the blogosphere and I’m not going to lie it’s always something I’ve wanted to do, but I was a little afraid that I might not have 100 days?! However, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is just a way to give myself a happy moment everyday, and alongside blogging it, I’m going to be sharing a video of the ‘100 Happy Days’ at the end of it! I thought it would make a nice compilation video, and a nice little project to invest some time in. If this is something you’d be interested in following, then make sure you let me know because if that’s the case- let’s start as soon as.

I will still be doing my ‘every two-day posts’ but I will just incorporate a short snippet each day of what my happy moment was.

I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to join me in this, and I know it might be a stretch, but if you could film a snippet of your day to day life and happy moment send them to me and I can compile them! I saw a video similar in nature on YouTube and absolutely LOVED it, so I would love to make one for all of us to feature in.

Let me know if this is something you would get on board with, and we can start it.

Only a short one today, to get the feel for this little project, so make sure you let me know via any of my social media channels or by commenting below on whether you would like to get involved! 😊

I Quit my job? |Lifestyle

Hey everyone,

If you didn’t guess it, the beautiful flowers in the image above are flowers to make me feel better. This is a weird one. Originally, I had another blog post planned, but things as you know don’t always go to plan.

So, let’s get to talking about what happened today. I work, well worked* for a social media company, and for a while I really loved it. I loved having the 9-5 working pattern, I  enjoyed what it was I was doing, and I thought I had it made because the people I worked with are really nice.

After a while, I felt myself being less and less creative, I wasn’t posting on my blog, my ideas were slowly disappearing and all I was focusing on was finishing work. I started counting down the minutes until 5pm, looking forward to the weekend far too much and getting that ‘Sunday dread’ where you really really don’t want to go in tomorrow morning.

Anyway after a month or so of this, I decided that it wasn’t for me, my heart wasn’t really in it, I would so much rather work toward being my own boss and I just felt like I couldn’t really do it there. So, with much deliberation I handed in my notice, which meant that I had to work my notice period of 3 months (I know, soooo long!) so it didn’t feel like this immediate relief I was expecting, it just kind of felt the same.

I was feeling really miserable going in, and I found myself crying in the toilet whilst I was in work because I just hated it so much, and that’s really sad. I have no job prospects, and not a lot of money saved, so really I don’t know what I’m doing. However, today I felt I just had no choice, I went in and my manager asked to talk to me, and I was like yes sure, following him out of the office in a good mood at work (for once!) and it just wasn’t a conversation I was happy about. I think it just brought to life everything I was feeling, in regards to how I was being treated differently from other staff members, and how I had started to feel like this definitely wasn’t the place for me to work anymore.

There’s so much more as to why I quit my job, but it’s just too long to write down. However, I felt like if you wanted something real to read, and to see that you don’t always have to do something you hate. If something or someone is making you that miserable, don’t just quit, try and resolve it first like I did, but if in the end it gets too much I don’t want you to ever feel stuck.

Alternatively, I wrote this to vent, and thought it would be some kind of solace to you if you are having a really bad day, to read this and think wow maybe today isn’t too bad and we can laugh at the horrendous day I’ve had together. 😊

So yes, I write this currently unemployed but feeling more calm then I have in a while. What a strange feeling?

A Day In My Life. | Lifestyle

Hey everyone,

I’m glad to see you’ve popped back to have a read, and if you’re new to my blog, then get yourself a cuppa and make yourself right at home.

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve decided to post every two days now going forward, so be sure to check back!

So, right now, the weather here in Manchester is b-e-a-utiful. I love reading and watching ‘Day in the life’ posts/vlogs so I thought what better way to put all the pictures I’ve taken over the last couple of days to use then to put them all in here.

As you know from my last post on how I stay motivated, I’ve been making an effort to go to the gym and really trying to control my diet (the hardest part I’ve found) I started the day with a trip to the gym, and a coffee to reward myself afterwards. I can’t live without coffee! Who else is the same? Literally it’s so hard for me, but I’m trying to just go on one a day. With my obsessive love for coffee, has come the knowledge of where to get the best one- Carluccios. (Yes, your read that right!)

img_0948-1

I then went on to wander my way home, which is a 20 minute walk- so not too long, but if you walk the right way you catch just the right picture. A lot of people who haven’t been to Manchester have this pre-conception that everyone has Oasis hair cuts, The Smiths play in the streets and you can probably catch people saying ‘Our kid’ every other sentence. However, apart from all that it’s just a pretty great place to live if you love the city life, it’s just a beautiful place. (Okay, I’ll stop talking about Manchester now…)

img_1030-1

After deciding that I was tired, and really didn’t want to walk any where else, I lay on the grass outside and took in the sunshine. The best part about this was that living in Manchester it’s rare you can ever lie down on the grass, without getting a wet arse because it’s either been raining- or god knows what. Also, you never really get sun here and when we do we all pile into ‘Oyster Bar’ just off Deansgate and drink pints for under £4.00 (Legit, that’s what we actually do)

img_0949

So far, I’ve been to the gym, lay on the grass and walked home. So now it’s time for the most important thing, a Sunday roast. I met Brett after work, and we headed to ‘Refinery’ where they served an incredible Sunday roast, and we sat with a bev enjoying the last bits of the sun, and hoping it would come back for the walk home. (It didn’t, it went back to Manchester’s favourite colour- grey) 👇

img_0989

After that, we pretty much nursed our food coma’s back to health by relaxing on the sofa and watching rubbish TV. A perfect end to a perfect day.

Thank you so much for reading. If you liked this style of post, let me know and I’ll do something similar in the future. I will be posting a VLOG soon from the day, and I’ll let you know when that’s up so you can go on over and have a look!
